The team at the Lade InnHaving been at the Lade since 2005, we are a family team comprising of Dad, Mum, Son, Daughter, Son in law, Grand-daughter and dog. Our recipe for success consists of a huge helping of tasty, local produce, washed down with fabulous Real Ales, accompanied with live Scottish music and all served in a family friendly environment baked with passion. We're not saying the mixture comes out perfect each time however it's getting smoother and more consistent with experience. So why not come and give us a taste?
Dad has spent the last 30 years absorbed in computers and big businesses, but decided to leave the corporate world behind to invest his hard earned cash and sweat into the Lade Inn. Although a lot of his time is taken running his own small software company or doing the books, he has time each Saturday evening to serve at the bar so he can listen to the Ceilidhs. When he gets a spare moment he likes to hit a small ball around a big bit of grass or watch Chelsea playing football, beer drinking is an important part of his personal development and he is keen to be promoted to chief beer taster in due course!
Mum apart from spending most of her life raising the Park family (and is doing a grand job helping with the newest arrival Daisy!) has also worked in various retail, catering and food shops throughout her career. She runs a tight ship here at the Lade where cleanliness and personal hygiene are imperative; you will notice that one of her favourite past-times is picking hairs from your jumper. Her vibrant personality and easy going nature are brilliant for customer service and more importantly local gossip. Mum loves gardening- (just look at the pub garden) and watching soaps although she doesn't see a lot of them since starting at the Lade!
No restaurant is good without a great Head Chef at the helm and this maybe the first time Steve has been a Head Chef but he certainly has the background to support it. Starting life as a na?ve college graduate he gained his chef training at Turnberry Hotel, where he worked for 4 years under Stuart Cameron. He then moved back down south for the next 6 years to work at the Ritz London and then the Landmark Hotel in Marylebone. Missing the cold winds, snow and northern lights of old Aberdeen, he moved back up north in 2003 to work at the Square Restaurant, which has achieved an excellent reputation for its food. Stephen is passionate about food and beer- (just take a look at his waistline) and keen to develop a reputation for high quality, good value, and fresh food. Due to his long hours, Steve loves to spend as much of his free time in bed, although since the start of his new relationship with the 'Lovely Laura', he has not even had the time to join dad for a session of ball hitting on the grass.
Alison initially trained and worked for 2 years as a primary school teacher, before moving into Marketing (& PR darling) with Diageo the alcoholic drinks company. Finding her niche in wine, she put her heart and soul into her job especially the tastings and spent a lovely 6 years with lots of hard work and play. Having got bored with London life, she forced poor Fred into travelling the world and they returned to invest in the Lade. Her passions include travelling, watching Chelsea win, good wines and great art, especially in creating her own- although with a new baby there has not been a lot of that going on. Known as half job to the staff, it is Alison's mission in life to complete a table once starting to set it!
Fred's career has encompassed a variety of retail management roles from Off Licenses to Organic Food shops and brings a wealth of knowledge to the business. He's a bit of a character and bossy at work but as long as he doesn't have too much contact with the public he's ok. His vocation in life is beer and throws himself into it wholeheartedly! He loves to stand on the soap box and debate.... everything, he'll talk to you for hours on just about any subject you care to mention as he has a bottomless pit of information in his head. His particular passion is Roman & Ancient history, which makes cracking bed time viewing on Sky for Alison.
Brand new to the Lade on the 3rd May 2006 was Daisy, thankfully not born in the pub, but at Stirling Royal Infirmary. Since her arrival she has been a big hit with the locals who showered her with presents. She is coming on leaps and bounds, giggling and gurgling now, especially at Granma and Uncle Steve. Bobby - Foxy Dog & General Botherer Bobby family dog has certainly stamped his mark on the Lade; dirty paw prints are everywhere- on the carpet, bedding and sofa. Being a collie he loves nothing better than to be out and about, especially swimming in the local river Teith. His favourite toy is his ball, he is obsessed by it and his favourite person is mum as she gives him the most cuddles.
'Lovely Laura' joined us last year when we first took over the Lade just part time while she set up her photography business, as she proved such a great member of staff Fred set out to get her more hours in the restaurant. After constant badgering and a need to bolster her holiday fund she finally agreed and has not yet realised her hours haven't dropped since she returned! Let's hope she doesn't notice. Laura has some of her photographic work of local features (lochs, highland cows and fluffy lambs) on display at the Lade so you can be sure to satisfy most holiday presents with an original piece of art for the ladies and a bottle of Lade Real Ale for the gents!
Raymond or Ray as he is more affectionately called also came with the pub but originally from Budapest in Hungary. He has been working at the Lade since we took over and still speaks English a lot better than Fred! Always a happy camper, he never loses his temper and is a great tonic for Steve's fiery temper especially when the heat gets too much in the kitchen. Unfortunately ladies, Ray is already taken by both his beautiful girlfriend and adopted black Labrador called Nero. Peter is another export from Hungary and a life long friend of Raymond. Having had tons of experience in top hotels just like Stephen has, he has settled well into the busy kitchen and brings lots of creative ideas with him. His calm collected manor and easy laid back style ensure that no task is too big or bothersome, it takes a lot to shake this man's feathers.
Moray is continuing a family trait by joining us at the Lade Inn, both his grandfather and father who still live in Kilmahog and was/is the local GP worked at the Lade in their youth. Moray started as a shy and quiet lad, working away with his ipod on, now you can't keep him quiet. His love of history provides some interesting conversations for Fred & someone to share his library of Roman books with!
